Inspiration
The inspiration behind Help Connect stemmed from a realization that there wasn't a dedicated platform where individuals could connect to offer or seek assistance. This drove me to create a solution that would build genuine connections and promote mutual aid within communities.
What it does
Help Connect is a platform designed to bridge the gap between individuals eager to offer assistance and those in need within their communities. This social platform serves to bring people who want to help and people who need help together for mutual aid.
How we built it
I built Help Connect using React with NextJS. For the backend, I used NodeJS, and stored posts in MongoDB cloud. I used Vercel to host the site, so everyone could use it.
Challenges we ran into
Storing and swiftly retrieving posts from the database was a task that required extra attention. Ensuring the site's hosting on Vercel, making it accessible, was another hurdle I overcame.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Beyond the technicalities, the real accomplishment was in the creation of a space that builds community connections. Making the platform available to everyone, ensuring its accessibility, and creating a solution to the problem was what I took pride in.
What we learned
I gained an understanding of creating a social platform, and learned how to make a user-friendly and visually appealing site.
What's next for Help Connect
On the horizon are features like an integrated messaging system, user accounts with reputability scores to instill trust, and an AI-driven matching system to connect those offering help with individuals whose needs align, ensuring a more efficient experience for all users.
