Inspiration

We noticed that there wasn't any invention to greet Makers as they were welcomed to the Calgary Makerfaire 2022 so we decided to create a greeter in maker style!

What it does

We have a camera that tracks faces, moves the camera towards it. It will detect the distance of the person and change LED color accordingly and beep to alert and say hello to the visitor.

How we built it

We built this with a raspberry Pi 4 running OpenCV using Servos, LEDs, and a custom 3d printed mount.

Challenges we ran into

Compiling OpenCV was challenging to do on a Raspberry Pi as all our previous experience with OpenCV was on a windows machine

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We completed this in the time

What we learned

How to use OpenCV and compile all dependencies for OpenCV on Python

What's next for HelloCamera - Greeting on the go

Better face detection algorithm
