Inspiration

The song is about taking life by the reins and enjoying it to its fullest. It's a meaningful song with a real message, but with playful lyrics sprinkled in throughout. So, the music video has the same vibe, featuring musical polar bears and an actual life-size cardboard cutout of myself.

How we built it

There are real life clips sprinkled in, but there are some lines in the song that I thought would be fun to specifically create clips for. "Poking the bear atop thin ice" was the particular line that inspired the journey in AI video creation for the song, where polar bears were repeatedly featured doing whimsical things like playing drums or surfing.

I initially generated a set of clips with Runway's Gen 3. There were parts of the video I liked a lot, but a lot of it felt cheesy. It's hard to strike a balance between playful and goofy at the right times and not just being too ridiculous to take seriously as a video and song. After taking a bit of time away from it, this contest was what inspired another round of iterations, this time using Dreamina.

I used all modes of Dreamina's video creation tools for the various needs of the video. One of the elements I struggled with in rounding out the video previously was figuring out how to lead from one clip to the next, so using the multiframe tool was super helpful, where the AI was able to just generate that transition itself in full.

The Song

My main musical project is called "Tackle the Fire", but the song was initially written for a side project. The side project was a synth-heavy style that was lighthearted and easier to record, whereas Tackle the Fire is somewhere in the genre of rock/pop punk. I moved away from the side project but wanted to keep a few of the songs, most notably including "Hello, World". While absolutely unnecessary, I added guitars to the song in the chorus just so I could feel deep down that it was that much more in the direction of the Tackle the Fire style.

There are a few other fun little tid bits that are snuck in the video. One came from back when I was in 7th grade. I had a Titanic project and on the front cover of it, I drew the Titanic but added a flaming meteorite hurdling toward it for fun. My teacher told me that he considered failing me for the project because of that, which I thought was the funniest thing ever. It essentially became my trademark, hence including it in the video.

The End

Life has been crazy lately, and it has just now started to feel like the return to some semblance of normalcy is here. It feels incredibly fitting that one of the first projects I kick it off with is saying "Hello world, so we meet again" and gets into living one's best life. Thanks to this contest for giving me the kick I needed, along with ideas for what tools to utilize, to finally get this video done and get back to passion projects like this.
