Inspiration

Helipad Survivor is inspired by the Vampire Survivor genre with an emphasis on saving survivors.

What it does

Helipad Survivor is a low fi demo focusing on the core gameplay loops of fighting, rescue, upgrading and progression to first validate a compelling experience players would want to play more than once. The demo does not focus on the theme, art style, animation, vfx, sfx or music.

The player must defend the helipad and survive as many enemy waves as possible. Collect XP from fallen enemies to upgrade player or survivor stats. Take survivors to the helipad to earn survival points to unlock special player and base building upgrades. The less survivors you have in your group the more vulnerable you'll be, so balance the risk of a small group Vs the reward of special upgrades.

How I built it

Built with Google Gemini (free) from a GDD (purposefully written for Gen AI).

Challenges I ran into

As this was a gen AI project some iterations were wildly off the mark!

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Creating a compelling moment-to-moment experience with a satisfying progression.

What I learned

As this was my first attempt at building a html game with a free AI tool I tried chat GPT, Claud and Gemini. I quickly learned that although Gemini gave the worst results I was able to build continuously within the allotted free usage and have fun building the game. I also learned not to be surprised when things went south, I mean epic misconceptions of what I wanted from some prompts! This was also part of the fun, to humorously except many WTF moments. I also learned that creating a GDD written in the conversational style an LLM would better understand was vital to keep the AI on track.

What's next for Helipad Survivor

Focus on theme, art style, animation, vfx, sfx and music that brings increased clarity and player feedback as well as satisfying visual payoffs. There will be additional focus on content variety for enemies, survivors, and base building as well as long term progression.
