Helion - Digital Healthcare OS
Helion is a next-generation healthcare platform that unifies AI symptom intelligence, doctor consultations, community care, and personal health analytics into one cinematic ecosystem made for Healthcare, Wellness & MedTech category.
Inspiration
Modern healthcare interfaces are often cold, fragmented, and overwhelming during high-stakes moments. Inspired by premium product design and futuristic cinematic interfaces, we wanted to build a "Digital Healthcare OS." Our goal was to transform the clinical experience into something that feels calm, intuitive, and human-centered, replacing static forms with an intelligent, conversational, and visually immersive assistant.
What it does
Helion serves as a complete command center for a patient's health:
- AI Triage Assistant: A cinematic avatar-driven interface that analyzes symptoms in real-time using advanced LLMs, providing risk assessments and recommended care paths.
- Doctor Marketplace: A structured directory where patients can find specialists, view availability, and book appointments directly into a unified calendar.
- Integrated Care Rooms: Seamless transition between text messaging and high-definition video consultations without leaving the workspace context.
- Medical Blog: A platform for doctors to share insights and patients to engage with evidence-based health content.
- Private Records Vault: A secure, interactive timeline of a user's medical history, including AI-generated reports and manually managed records for allergies, medications, and vaccinations.
How we built it
- Frontend: React with Vite and TypeScript for a fast, type-safe development experience.
- Styling: Custom Vanilla CSS and Tailwind CSS, utilizing a sophisticated "Glassmorphism" design system to create a premium, translucent aesthetic.
- Animations: GSAP (GreenSock Animation Platform) was used to drive cinematic route transitions, staggered entrances, and the luminous "sweep" effects.
- Backend/Auth: Firebase Admin SDK handles secure user authentication and data persistence.
- AI Engine: Google Gemini API powers the intelligent symptom analysis, providing structured JSON responses for precise triaging.
- Architecture: Organized as a Turborepo monorepo to separate the API, Web app, and Shared medical schemas.
Challenges we ran into
- Monorepo Deployment: Orchestrating Vercel deployments to correctly handle TypeScript path mapping and dependency installation across multiple apps.
- AI State Syncing: Syncing the visual "Thinking" states of our AI avatar with real-time API response streams to ensure the user never feels disconnected from the process.
- UI Performance: Maintaining 60FPS animations while handling high-density medical data and glass-blur effects across various device sizes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Cinematic Transitions: The implementation of the
RouteTransitionOverlaywhich provides a seamless, "luminous" feeling when navigating between different care modules. - AI Accuracy: Crafting prompt schemas for Gemini that return highly structured, medical-grade triage results with consistent risk scoring.
- Design System: Building a reusable set of "Glass" components that give the entire platform a unified, state-of-the-art visual language.
What we learned
- Advanced GSAP: Mastering timeline orchestration for non-linear web animations.
- Firebase Integration: Implementing the Admin SDK within a modern Express/TypeScript environment for robust backend security.
- User Flow Design: The importance of "onboarding enforcement"—ensuring users are correctly triaged and authenticated before accessing sensitive medical features.

- Wearable Integration: Real-time syncing with Apple Health and Google Fit to provide proactive AI health alerts before symptoms even start.
- Smart Pharmacy: Direct integration with prescription services to allow one-click medication delivery following a doctor consultation.
- Blockchain Security: Migrating the Health Records vault to a decentralized, encrypted ledger for ultimate patient data sovereignty.
- Global Triage: Expanding the AI's linguistic capabilities to support multilingual triage for underserved global communities.
