Inspiration
As students from different states in India, living away from home for our studies, we’ve experienced firsthand how difficult it is to access medical history when you’re far from your usual doctors. Something as simple as not carrying prescriptions or lab reports can lead to repeated tests, confusion, or delays in treatment. Seeing this problem magnified for migrants, travelers, and disaster-affected communities inspired us to build Helia—a health hub where records follow the patient, not the hospital.
What it does
Helia is an AI-driven digital health hub. Patients can upload any record scans, PDFs, prescriptions, or smartwatch data. OCR reads documents, NLP extracts vital details, and Generative AI reconstructs a clean, unified health history. Physicians receive structured medical reports; patients get plain-language summaries in their preferred language. Blockchain ensures consent and accountability, while federated learning allows privacy-preserving intelligence without transferring sensitive data.
Challenges we ran into
-Ensuring data privacy and security while making records easily accessible. -Designing a system that works across states and healthcare providers with different record formats. -Encouraging adoption among users who are used to paper-based or scattered digital records. -Handling incomplete or inconsistent data from multiple sources while maintaining accuracy.
Accomplishments
-Developed a Figma prototype demonstrating the design and flow of Helia. -Created a mobile-first, user-friendly interface concept suitable for students and frequent travelers. -Validated the idea’s feasibility and user experience through design mockups. -Highlighted scalability potential conceptually, showing how the platform could grow if implemented.
What we learned
-Cross-state health challenges are common and under-addressed, highlighting a significant market need. -Even without a prototype, a well-researched idea can clearly demonstrate feasibility and impact. -User-centric design is crucial: solutions must balance privacy, accessibility, and simplicity.
What's next for Helia – Your Personalized Health Hub
-Develop the platform: Build a working version of Helia based on the Figma prototype. This would involve front-end and back-end development, secure databases, and user authentication. -Integrate essential features: Start with core functionalities like uploading and retrieving medical records, appointment tracking, and basic summaries. -Focus on usability and accessibility: Conduct user testing to improve design, navigation, and accessibility for diverse users. -Enhance security and privacy: Plan for encryption, consent management, and compliance with healthcare data regulations. -Explore scalability: Identify technologies and partnerships that could allow Helia to serve more users and integrate with hospitals, pharmacies, or national ID systems in the future. -Iterate and improve: Gather feedback from potential users to refine features and make the platform more effective and user-friendly.
