Inspiration

A personal fascination with the Nordic aesthetic and a desire to test my own creative limits. I wanted to see if I could use early, custom-tuned AI tools (like LoRAs with low training data) to forge something that felt beautifully strong, a raw, authentic "Skjaldmær" (Shieldmaiden) spirit.

What it does

This video is an artifact of an experiment. It functions as an atmospheric piece that prioritizes sonic power over visual polish. It's designed to make the listener feel the stark strength and melancholy of the Nordic style, using the music as the primary vector.

How we built it

This was a "maker culture" build: pure trial and error. The music was composed first as the emotional anchor. The visuals were a stress test of generative AI tools from that time, specifically pushing custom LoRAs to see what raw beauty could be extracted despite limited training. It was an exercise in audio "sintonia" (tuning) and visual brute force.

Challenges we ran into

The technical limitation of the graphics. The tools weren't polished. Getting any consistency in such a specific style was a fight. The personal challenge was accepting that "perfect" was the enemy of "done" accepting the raw, flawed visuals to preserve the strength of the music.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The music. We are proud that the audio "hits a cool place." The accomplishment is proving that even with raw, experimental visuals, the right soundtrack and intention can create a powerful, immersive experience. We captured the feeling we set out to.

What we learned

We learned that the soul of a piece isn't necessarily in its visual polish. Music is a far stronger emotional anchor. This experiment proved that a strong score and art direction can compensate for technical flaws, turning "weak graphics" into a "lo-fi aesthetic." It was a lesson in where to focus creative energy.

What's next for Helen Ailith - Skjaldmær

"Skjaldmær" was a rite of passage. It was the test that validated the Helen Ailith persona. What's next is taking this core lesson "strong music first, visuals in service to the music" and applying it to future productions with more mature tools, but keeping that same raw, authentic soul.
