Inspiration
One of our teammates has dietary restrictions and allergies that prevent her from eating at many on-campus food locations. Even at food locations where she might be able to eat, it is difficult to keep track of what time everything is open and available. We wanted to create a web application that SMS's the student about what their options are at their dining time based on their indicated food restrictions.
What it does
The student inputs their first name, last name, pid, and phone number as well as their diet restriction to produce a list of locations and meals they can eat around campus.
How we built it
We used HTML and CSS to create a user input-based website.
Challenges we ran into
We originally wanted to do the project on Swift, but none of us were very experienced with swift. We attempted to learn it, but we ended up making a website since we were more comfortable in HTML. We, unfortunately, had to extremely have to simplify the project extremely based on what we had planned due to extreme time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to produce some output despite
What we learned
We learned how to work in fast-paced environments and how crucial it is to prioritize and utilize our time correctly.
What's next for HeelEats
Eating habits are often associated with mental health. College students often struggle with eating meals on time, especially with rigorous class schedules during the day. We plan to incorporate an algorithm that integrates students' schedules from their user-inputted PID such that the website sends notifications for their preferred meal times between classes with a list of what location is open and how busy the location is at that time.
