Inspiration
Our inspiration for Heed was simple, and it’s a problem not only that affected our team, but also the global population, as online learning became a prominent way of conducting classes. It has its drawbacks, like most prominent entities, here, in this case, it’s distractions. Trying to study for a test, trying to access Google Classroom, et voila! That’s a funny title for an article, let’s give it a read…
We wanted to address this issue, increase attention-spans, generate focus - so online learning, which is still a hindrance and a reality for many, does not encompass their academic, professional or general performance.
What it does
Our motto is simple: No distractions for you online, and making you pay heed.
How we built it
We built heed with the aid of Javascript and HTML. We, firstly, built the basic browser extension’s layout, and then proceeded to build the other functionalities, like: the timer, the website blocker, the music player, etc.
Challenges we ran into
We faced challenges whilst building the browser extension, since no of us had prior experience in that arena before. Further, we also were challenged whilst combining all of the different functionalities. And well, it might have taught us a thing or two about the importance of working as a team!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to create the web extension and were able to implement a few features that will help users concentrate on their work, like the website blocker and background music to help people focus. Also, although difficult, we were able coordinate times to work together, even though we lived 12 hours apart. Lastly, for most of us, this was our first hackathon and the fact we were able to achieve so much was very impressive to us.
What we learned
We were able to learn and enhance our skills in javascript, html, and css. We were also able to learn how to work under immense pressure due to the strict time constraint. Lastly, we learned how to work with each other, even though we are in different time zones.
What's next for Heed
We definitely want to add more features like a variety of classical music, a todo list, and many other ideas. We also want to make the user interface and user experience much better. this should be good
