Inspiration
“Heaven or Machine?” was born from a question I couldn’t shake: What if divinity descended… and it wasn’t human?
I wanted to explore the emotional arc of invasion, surrender, ritual, and ultimately liberation—told not through dialogue, but through overwhelming imagery and symbolic progression. The project reimagines faith and domination in a world where gods are engineered and salvation is optional.
What it does
The short film immerses viewers in a baroque mechanical empire where robots and “chosen ones” march through golden temples as an angel rises and the sky folds open. It’s designed for social platforms: fast visual impact, symbolic storytelling, and a final twist that reframes everything that came before.
How we built it
The film was created using a full AI + editing workflow:
PixVerse, Vidu, Freepik → visual generation and stylistic consistency.
CapCut → editing, pacing, transitions, effects and final polish.
Suno AI → custom deep-bass sound design and score.
The goal was to merge aesthetic cohesion with strong emotional beats optimized for vertical formats.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenges were:
Maintaining visual continuity across different AI tools.
Achieving consistent character/costume design in long marching sequences.
Matching music dynamics with the ritualistic tone of the visuals.
Keeping the narrative clear without dialogue.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Establishing a coherent cinematic universe across multiple AI models.
Achieving a strong emotional arc entirely through visuals.
Creating a vertical short that feels “grand” despite its format.
Crafting an ending that visually suggests liberation, not domination.
What we learned
This project taught me how to:
Combine multiple generation engines without losing style cohesion.
Build symbolic storytelling for scroll-first audiences.
Use music and pacing to enhance clarity when there is no narration.
Push vertical AI filmmaking into something closer to epic cinema.
What's next for Heaven or Machine?
I plan to expand this universe.
