Tuition Hack Copyright © hackPrinceton 2015

Requirements: Choropleth maps to show current tuition costs from 1745 colleges & universities and: Have a choropleth map that increases with the tuition costs, higher tuition equals higher heat. Have an algorithm to determine future tuition costs Use past data from 2002-2015 to determine the algorithm Have a search bar to quickly find individual institutions Have a input field to determine which year to project tuition costs for Create a database for the universities which includes:

Primary Key (Unit ID) Institution Name Institution (entity) name Zip Code Street Address or PO Box City Location of Institution Street address or post office box &" "& City location of institution Total price for in-state students living on campus 2014-15 Total price for out-of-state students living on campus 2014-15 Total price for in-state students living on campus 2013-14 Total price for out-of-state students living on campus 2013-14

Website Purpose: The purpose of this site is to develop a valuable set of choropleth maps to determine which universities, states, and regions are more expensive than the average university. This website and mobile applications will also serve as a point of reference for future increases in tuition for both in-state and out-of-state students per university.

Algorithm: The quadratic regression formula:

The formula projects future data points by using the previous data sets, A,B,C. Our logic for the formula:

a = (( Σ x2y * Σ xx ) - (Σ xy * Σ xx2 )) / (( Σ xx * Σ x2x2) - (Σ xx2 * Σ xx2))< b = (( Σ xy * Σ x2x2 ) - (Σ x2y * Σ xx2 )) / (( Σ xx * Σ x2x2) - (Σ xx2 * Σ xx2 )) c = ( Σ y / $numValues ) - ( b * ( Σ x / $numValues )) - ( a * ( Σ x2 / $numValues )) where: Σ xx = ((Σx^2) - (($Σx)^2 / n)) Σ xy = ((Σxy) - ((Σx* $Σy) / n)) Σ xx2 = ((Σx^3) - ((Σx^2* Σx) / n)) Σ x2y = ((Σx^2y) - ((Σx^2* Σy) / n)) Σ x2x2 = ((Σx^4) - ((Σx^2)^2 / n)))
