Inspiration

Cities are the most popular places for people to move to today because of all the opportunities they hold. However, they can be dangerous regarding weather patterns, pollution, safety, and education, and trying to figure out which city to move to is difficult and time-consuming. Securcity presents all this research for you in one place.

What it does

Securcity utilizes several APIs and data collection services to build a complex portfolio on the prosperity of a requested city. The user can either use their current location or search for a city using the search bar.

How we built it

We used HTML and CSS to create various web pages with regards for the user’s safety and their preferences. Each of these pages pulls and analyzes data from an API/data collection service and then presents the user with the most valuable information to their safety and where they should seek to live to fulfill their desires.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into challenges when working with the APIs which were difficult to understand and gave access to massive data sets that we had to learn to parse. By working with those APIs, we were able to leverage the information in these data sets and display all the information in a consistent and clear manner. It wasn’t an easy task to learn how to use the APIs and work out the minute kinks in our implementations but it paid off.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of accessing several APIs/services and analyzing that data in a useful manner. We are also are proud of implementing user input and collecting user data through the use of location services.

What we learned

From this project, we have learned the immense value of teamwork under high pressure situations, and that good communication can mean the difference between success and failure. Additionally we learned to utilize the strengths of all members of our team resulting in every member reaching peak efficiency and accuracy.

What's next for Securcity

We want to refine the results from our API’s as well as add data collection from various other sources. Additionally the data collected from Security could be used in the future to setup a donation service that allows users to donate to cities that may be in a declining condition.
