Inspiration

We wanted to create a website that is focused on managing mental health because it's an important matter that affects us all, and it's becoming a widely discussed topic, which we love to see. However, it can be overwhelming to start taking care of your mental health and many people may not know where to start. Perhaps they grew up in a community that lacked resources and support and considered this topic to be taboo, or maybe they wish to gain more knowledge to help others. That's why we designed our site to be user friendly so people can easily find and access numerous resources. They can connect to both other peers or with professionals to build a support system. We don't want them to feel intimidated but rather be introduced to a welcoming and supportive experience as they start their journey in caring for their mental health.

What it does

It provides various resources for people to help them with their mental heath, such as blog posts, guides, chatrooms, and hotlines. They can search for keywords and topics (eg. anxiety, grief, bullying, love, identity, etc.) to find specific resources that fit their needs. Users can post blogs to share their personal stories and others can read them to feel more understood in their struggles. People can also search up verified guides written by specialists to learn how to manage their health and other educational topics. There are chatrooms to message and connect with peers in real time and links to hotlines when people in a crisis urgently need to talk to a professional.

How we built it

We designed our web interface with Figma. We used Wix to make our website.

Challenges we ran into

It was our first time using Figma so we had to figure out how to use all the different tools-some we were familiar with and others not so much. It also took some time for us to troubleshoot the format of the prototype and all our layers got very disorganized.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of brainstorming an idea that centers around an important issue we care about and finishing a design and prototype of a web interface and creating the website as well.

What we learned

We learned how to use Figma

What's next for Heartfelt Mind

We hope to expand the different types of resources available, such as adding a feature that would help people find therapists, in person support group meetings, mental health events, and health clinics in their local area. We would also like to add a section that included a curated suggestion of books, movies, and other media about mental health.
