Inspiration

After viewing the presentation from the Heart And Stroke foundation, we were inspired to help seniors and adults monitor their health to live happier and healthier lives. Our goal is to have our application be used all over the world, in order to provide a more transparent view of ones health so they know what to do to manage their blood pressure and avoid heart disease.

What it does

Our application is a place where anyone with blood pressure monitors can input their blood pressure data to store, and for analysis. We graph their data for easier view, as well as show a quick analysis for those to quickly understand their data. In terms of analysis, we have regular analysis of current blood pressure to inform about current heart condition alongside a state of the art AI that uses blood pressure to check your chances against heart disease. There is also a scoring system to help encourage users to lower their blood pressure into good ranges and try recommendations to get healthier.

How we built it

Our application is built to be run on the cloud, alongside storing the data on the cloud and the AI model for the heart disease prediction. Currently, our data and model are on Google Cloud, and we have built our front end in react just on our local machine for demo purposes. They will be connected through an API Gateway in order to communicate.

Challenges we ran into

Setting up and API Gateway proved to be a little time consuming, given the time constraint, and there was not a very easy way to connect the frontend to the AI locally as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to make a beautiful website, with a great AI model that can provide amazing results with blood pressure data to make user have more peace of mind when it comes to their health.

What we learned

While doing this project we learnt a lot more about heart conditions and blood pressure, as well as technical skills like more about React, Google Cloud, TensorFlow and python.

What's next for Heart At Rest

We plan to add many more features to Heart At Rest to provide even more functionality. In the works is a chat bot feature to help answer questions users might have about blood pressure in general as well as provide recommendations of changes one could make to help lower their blood pressure. Furthermore, we are going to allow you to connect your profile to your doctor so that your doctors can see your heart data as well, for clearer pictures of problems. You will soon also be able to use our tool to find the near specialist to you, if you don't have one.
