Inspiration

We had mixed inspirations while designing this app from Spotify and Yelp. What differs Hear Me Out from those apps is that there is a feature to review songs you’ve listened to. This app is dedicated to music listeners who want to recommend their favorite songs. Reviewers can impact other users’ music tastes, which is one of the many intentions for our app.

What It Does

Essentially, what our app does is find your favorite songs, connect new friends with similar music interests together, rate music, and discover your new favorite artists. Hear Me Out is a platform to voice your opinions and form a community of music fans to connect with one another.

How We Built It

We built our social app on Figma. We put a lot of thought into the user experience for Hear Me Out. We worked on designing each screen with the passion of making our app easy to navigate and looking aesthetically pleasing for users. For example, we selected a color palette that signifies calm from coolors.co and rounded the edges for the aesthetic app look.

Challenges We Ran Into

The challenges we encountered were learning how to use Figma for the first time. There were many instances where we had to self-teach ourselves how to create functional buttons and have them navigate to another page. Another challenge was choosing a topic to focus on that connects and matters to the connectivity track. The connectivity track focuses on how popular technology can be improved for new and wider audiences. Hear Me Out did meet this requirement, since social apps are very popular and there will be a lot of users from all different music backgrounds using our app.

Accomplishments we’re proud of

Some proud accomplishments that we have are being able to finish a project in under 24 hours. This was the first Hackathon for half of our team so it was amazing to see how we were able to learn how to use Figma and implement a whole app. Even though we needed to learn how to use the software along the way, we were able to create an interactive project with cool features of buttons, texts, and images.

What We Learned

There were several important lessons we learned while participating the hackathon. Significantly, understanding the difficulty it takes to make an app in a short span of time, navigating through Figma, making buttons, learning to collaborate and community with group members, and managing our work time by following a schedule.

What’s Next For Hear Me Out

Since we were not able to create everything we originally planned, the next steps for Hear me Out are implementing a way for all users to type and store data so that they can log in and sign up for an account. Additionally, we plan to implement a chat message button and follow button for people to connect and get to know each other. Lastly, we plan to add more interactive features such as allowing buttons to change colors upon hovering over them.
