Inspiration

The inspiration for our project stems from the growing epidemic of pediatric chronic pain and its profound connection to the child's mental health crisis. With 1 in 5 children experiencing chronic pain, often disproportionately affecting marginalized and minoritized children, we recognized the need for an integrated solution. Our goal was to create an app that not only addresses their medical and educational needs but also supports their overall well-being and facilitates easier reintegration into society

What it does

Our app, "Empower. Heal. Thrive.," is designed to support skill development and health management for rehabilitated children. The app includes three main tabs:

  1. Home Tab: Personalized greeting, progress tracker, quick access to key features, notifications, and resource library.
  2. Health Record Overview Tab: Comprehensive view of medical history, current medications, upcoming appointments, lab results, and health tracker.
  3. Nearby Hospitals Tab: List of nearby hospitals, interactive map, filter and search options, and emergency contacts.

How we built it

We built the app using Flutter, ensuring it is accessible on iOS, Android, and the web. Our development process included:

  • Designing the UI in Figma.
  • Implementing the design and functionality in Flutter.
  • Integrating data and features such as progress tracking, resource library, and health record management.
  • Testing the app for usability and performance.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the development process, we faced several challenges, including:

  • Ensuring accurate and secure integration of medical data while maintaining user privacy.
  • Designing an intuitive and user-friendly interface that caters to children and their families.
  • Balancing the complexity of features with performance and ease of use.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of several key accomplishments, such as creating an app that integrates educational, medical, and support resources in one platform. Developing an intuitive and engaging user interface. and Ensuring the app is available across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, web).

What we learned

Through this project, we learned:

  • Importance of User Feedback: Iterating on design and functionality based on user testing and feedback.
  • Integration of Health Data: Navigating the challenges of securely integrating and managing health data.
  • Cross-Platform Development: Leveraging Flutter to build a seamless experience across different devices.

Looking ahead, we plan to:

Enhance User Experience: Continuously improve the app based on user feedback and technological advancements.

Collaborate with Healthcare Providers: Partner with healthcare organizations to ensure accurate and up-to-date medical information.
