Inspiration
We are fully aware of the effect of climate change on society and the world and the lack of educational interest in teaching about climate change and the inability to track data locally which brought about our product to solve that problem.
What it does
Our Product is in three tiers ranging from Educate--Tracking---Challenge
- Educate: We discovered that a lot of products have been built to address climate change and Carbon emissions but because the masses at large are ignorant of the danger and negative effects of climate change, they ignore those products. So, we decided to build a platform that enlightens people about carbon emissions and all the dangers ahead so that there will be individual and collective efforts to reduce them to the lowest. They are also encouraged to adopt every product that reduces carbon emissions. The platform also provides articles and a live news feed of climate change-related issues happening around the globe
- Track: Our tracking page provides live analysis of the behavior of our users that contribute to carbon emissions and hence, government, individuals, and cooperative bodies can make informed decisions to address climate change in the best possible way and regard each location and individual believe small drops make an ocean in other words, small contribute by individuals make a large carbon emission and if those little actions can be tracked and avoided, we can have safer earth.
- Challenge: After learning and having a good knowledge of climate change and Carbon emission, our users are given tasks to perform as a means of practicing everything they’ve learned from the platform they are encouraged to drop some activities, adopt a new practice, add something new and most importantly to also built and develop products that combat climate change.
How we built it
From the backend, we used the django+django REST framework to work on the database for users’ registration and integrated python into it too. From the frontend in which we used Mango DB to create a structured framework on users can navigate the webpage and also Node.js
Challenges we ran into
We had issues with users logging in which were solved by our backend developer and also our mobile view is still being worked on too.
Key Accomplishments
- We have launched the site platform and it is up and running for it to be used
- We have successfully registered at least 5 users with the hope of registering a few more on the portal soon.
What we learned
We learned about team management and the essence of effective collaboration.
# What's next for HealthyEarth Project
Grow into a full academy with a series of courses taught by professors and experts in the field of climate change Develop an AI algorithm capable of accurately predicting individual carbon emission With partnership from the government and organization, we intend to also launch hackathon/sponsor people to also apply their skills across all domains to solve climate issues
