Due to nutrition being an essential part of well-being, our app focuses on alerting users about healthy food options, either on the menu or nearby restaurants, when they enter a fast food chain.

Inspiration

Our inspiration for the product came from our often impulsive decisions regarding food. Normally when hanging out with our friends we end up at fast food restaurants and we go along with whatever our friends order which often isn’t the healthiest choice. However most of the time as we walk out the restaurant we regret it and wished we went with something healthier. This app was born out of a desire to resist peer pressure by providing an immediate prompt to something healthier so it is as the center of our mind.

What it does

The app gives notifications that identifies healthier options whenever the user enters a restaurant or other place where one can get prepared food. For example if someone enters Chick-Fil-A he or she will be prompted to get a chicken salad and a fruit cup instead of the standard order of a fried chicken sandwich and waffle fries.

How we built it

We initially planned to build it as android app so that it can be readily available at the moment of temptation. However due to android studios complexities, we opted to use bubble to visualize how the app would work without needing to code it up.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into challenges building the android app because we had essentially no knowledge in android app and so we had to download and learn how to use Android studio app to even start building the app, as well as Google Maps API. We were also new to Bubble, so learning how to build in it was a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we came up with an extremely simple but still unused idea to help users eat healthier while on their busy everyday lives

What we learned

We learned that building Android apps can be very involved and require a good bit of knowledge and preparation to build.

What's next for GeoFood

We will continue building the app so we realize it’s dream of helping and entire nation to eat healthier while still allowing them to maintain their everyday lives. We hope to expand it as an app to allow for notifications such as food, and water reminders, as well as mental health checks.
