Inspiration
After hearing the presentation from Otsuka x Valuenex about how data shows that Generation Z feels more depressed and lonelier, we were inspired to create an app to encourage people to connect more with others and be healthier. Since we are at TreeHacks, we made our mascot a growing tree to represent the user's social and mental wellbeing as they complete each task.
What it does
The Healthy Planting app encourages users to follow 3 simple tasks that are extremely beneficial to their health. Most people forget to do simple tasks such as drink enough water, eating fruits/vegetables, or even walk 10 minutes the whole day. With these simple reminders, people are encouraged to do these tasks with the promise of a reward. One gets to see the baby tree grow into a full tree for each task they accomplish. There is also an option for the user to reset it each day so they can start it fresh with different tasks so the users are never bored of having to do the same thing every day.
How we built it
We built it using Xcode and Swift.
Challenges we ran into
Since it was our first time building an app, we faced a couple challenges of understanding the interface and tools.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating an app since it was our first time ever using this interface. We are also proud of the tree art, the variety in daily tasks for users to do, and the simple and clean app design.
What we learned
We learned how to use the IDE Xcode, the language Swift, and how to make pixel art using PixilArt.
What's next for Healthy Planting
The next step for Healthy Planting is to develop the app further and add more features. We plan to add more daily task challenges, different types of trees, and a score chart which users can share with others.
