Inspiration
Given the isolating circumstances that we are in, there is a higher risk for individuals to be vulnerable to mental illnesses. I myself have seen how the effects of isolation have impacted our friends and families. Mental health has been a growing topic in society and there is no time better than now to do something to positively impact others' mental health. So, I wanted to create an educational resource hub where individuals could find information about mental health.
What it does
The website contains information, interactive resources, including a chatbot and mental health resource locator, and links to mental health organizations for individuals to explore.
How I built it
The website is built with HTML/CSS/JS and is hosted on Qoom. The chatbot on our site is made with Google's Dialogflow. The map that locates the nearest mental health resource center is built with the Google Maps API. The website domain is a-healthy-mind.online.
Challenges I ran into
This was my first time using Dialogflow and it took me a while to learn it. Eventually, I was able to get the chatbot working and embed it to the website. Moreover, this was my first time using Qoom and I ran into a weird bug that wouldn't allow me to upload our files, which slowed my progress down a bit.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud that I was able to incorporate new technologies into my project, especially Dialogflow. Above all else, I am proud to have made a resource that has the potential to help others.
What I learned
I learned how to manage my time effectively and incorporate new technologies. Overall, this hackathon was a great learning experience.
What's next for Healthy Mind Online
In the future, I would like to train the chatbot with more information, include more interactive resources, and create a system where people can post their messages of support for those struggling with their mental health.
