"If habits shape our lives, why are we still building them like chores?"

We were tired of habit trackers that treat self-improvement like a grind — filled with guilt, red crosses, and perfectionism. Inspired by Atomic Habits and the emotional science of behavior change, we envisioned something gentler. A system that reflects growth instead of pressure. That supports identity change, not just task completion. That’s how Healthy Habits was born — a calm, consistent, and beautiful way to grow into the person you were meant to be.


What it does

Healthy Habits is a web-based habit tracking platform that turns daily actions into a calming, visual journey of growth:

  • 🌱 Virtual Habit Garden – Each habit becomes a plant that grows with your consistency.
  • 📆 Habit Calendar – Visualize your activity, streaks, and gaps with clarity.
  • 📊 Analytics Dashboard – Track trends in mood, performance, and progress.
  • One-tap Habit Logging – No friction, just action.
  • 🎉 Achievements & Badges – Unlock encouragement for showing up.
  • 🧠 AI Habit Suggestions – Personalized based on your rhythm and mood.
  • 🤝 Community Tab – Quiet accountability through leaderboards and shared progress.
  • 🎨 5 Calming Themes – Choose from Light, Dark, Nature, Ocean, and Kawaii.

How we built it

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React)
  • Backend: Node.js + Express
  • Database: MongoDB
  • Authentication: Firebase
  • AI Suggestions: Custom logic with habit/mood analytics
  • Email System: Integrated with SendGrid (API Key: x_YP69-vTOiLpYbcRTzOCA, Email: pathangulam785@gmail.com)
  • UI/UX: Designed with user psychology and emotion in mind — pastel colors, minimal friction, responsive animations

Challenges we ran into

  • Creating a visual system (the garden) that felt rewarding but never overwhelming
  • Designing a theme switcher that feels natural across 5 very different moods
  • Balancing motivational features like points and leaderboards without adding social pressure
  • Integrating mood tracking and analytics in a meaningful, not noisy way
  • Ensuring accessibility and calming animations across devices

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We built a fully functioning, emotionally thoughtful habit system from scratch in under 36 hours.
  • Our visual garden model added a fresh and symbolic way to represent consistency.
  • Designed a product that feels more like a calming experience than a dashboard.
  • Created AI-based habit nudges based on actual user behavior.
  • Developed a social accountability system without the toxicity of traditional social media.

What we learned

  • The importance of designing for emotion, not just for function.
  • Tiny UX choices — animations, tone, color — drastically change how users engage with habits.
  • Visual metaphors (like plants) can create real emotional attachment to behavior.
  • Consistency in code is just as important as consistency in habits.

What's next for Healthy Habits

  • 🎯 Partnering with wellness communities and colleges to build collective growth challenges

Because in a world shouting for more, we built a system that quietly says:
