Inspiration

Healthy Black Families serves the black community in Berkeley and conducts time consuming and labor intensive focus groups. Their process involves manual data transcription and manual data analysis.

What it does

Provides solutions for pain points along the entire journey for HBF's process: data collection, data analysis, data visualization, and digital empowerment.

How we built it

We built several prototypes using different tools including Figma, Replit, Lovable, and Cursor as well as off the shelf products like Mentimeter and Tally. The tools are designed to work with their existing suite of tools including Google and Microsoft products. LLMs and AI are leveraged to capture data and analyze data into themes and categories. The prototypes highlight use cases for how that data can be displayed and the data can be used to create tools for education and empowerment in the community.

Challenges we ran into

Scope of the challenge and time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Exceeded expectations of the stakeholders and implemented a solution that actually solves Healthy Black Families' problems.

What we learned

Connecting human stories and mission driven organizations with talented values aligned technologists can create solutions that have greater impact than either can do alone.

What's next for Healthy Black Families

Implement practical solutions based on the prototypes created and explore how much farther they would like to take these tools.
