Inspiration

I was inspired to create a solution after witnessing how overwhelmed people can feel trying to interpret their health information, especially in underserved communities. This app streamlines the communication between doctors, nurses, and patients, allowing doctors and nurses to access health information about patients and make decisions in real time, set reminders, provide updates, and monitor patients' recovery process. Patients can record and help health workers track vital signs, symptoms, and medications, as well as book appointments, among others.

This project aims to bridge the communication gap between healthcare professionals and patients by delivering plain-language explanations, visual learning tools, and interactive support, all with the help of AI and modern health tech.

What it does

A secure healthcare platform that explains diagnoses in plain language, supports care and appointment management, and empowers patients, doctors, nurses, researchers, and admins with smart, user-friendly tools.

How we built it

The project followed a modular and secure architecture, and development involved several key components:

Frontend: Built with React and Tailwind CSS to deliver a clean, responsive, and accessible user interface.

Backend: Powered by Node.js, supporting secure APIs, authentication, and data integration.

Database: Used PostgreSQL for structured data and encrypted storage of medical records and logs.

Security: Implemented end-to-end encryption, two-factor authentication, and consent management tools.

EHR Integration: Connected to electronic health record systems using HL7 FHIR standards.

Accessibility: Included screen reader support, voice narration, and multilingual options to accommodate diverse users.

I also created role-specific dashboards for:

Patients: For viewing test results, scheduling appointments, and receiving explanations in plain language.

Doctors/Nurses: For managing patient interactions, medications, and task workflows.

Researchers/Admins: For handling study data, user permissions, compliance logs, and analytics.

Challenges we ran into

Every ambitious project comes with its hurdles. Some of the major challenges included

Ensuring compliance (HIPAA, GDPR) while handling sensitive health data (possibly, with AI integration).

EHR interoperability, especially with inconsistent formatting in real-world records.

Building accessible UIs for all literacy and ability levels.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

All functional components of the app have been developed

Intuitive UI design for healthcare setting

Accessibilty integration and responsive design.

Seamless navigation and task workflows within the app

What we learned

Deepened my understanding of healthcare data structures and compliance requirements.

Gained experience integrating secure APIs, role-based access control, and interactive design.
