Inspiration

Healthcare decisions can be stressful, especially when patients struggle to find affordable hospitals, understand medical bills, and navigate complex health insurance policies. We were inspired to build HEALTHWISE AI to make healthcare financial decisions simpler, clearer, and more transparent.

What it does

HEALTHWISE AI is an agentic AI-powered healthcare navigator that helps patients throughout their healthcare financial journey.

Recommends suitable hospitals based on location, treatment needs, budget, facilities, and available insurance information.
Explains medical bill entries and flags possible duplicate charges or billing discrepancies.
Simplifies insurance policies, including coverage, exclusions, waiting periods, and co-payments.
Helps patients prepare insurance claims by identifying required and missing documents.
Provides evidence-linked explanations and clear next steps.

How we built it

We designed HEALTHWISE AI around specialized AI agents coordinated by a central orchestrator. Each agent handles a specific task: hospital recommendation, medical bill analysis, insurance policy understanding, or claim assistance.

Our planned technology stack includes React.js for the frontend, Python and FastAPI for the backend, LangGraph for agent orchestration, an LLM API for document understanding, PyMuPDF for PDF processing, and Python-based rules for bill verification.

Challenges we ran into

Understanding complex medical billing and insurance terminology.
Handling different formats of hospital, bill, and policy information.
Ensuring AI-generated explanations are supported by actual document evidence.
Identifying possible billing discrepancies without incorrectly labelling legitimate charges as errors.
