Inspiration
Covid-19 has forced millions of Americans to stay at home. As a result, many people have struggled with mental health because of the lack of interactions with others and not really being able to go to public places. Therefore, our team chose to create a website to advise individuals on how to take care of their mental health.
Function of our Website
Our website focuses on promoting wellness. On our website, there is a tab called "Wellness Hacks" that advise on healthy eating; exercise; and making conversations in the COVID world, and serves the purpose of encouraging individuals to think about their lifestyle. We also included a list of professional resources and our contact information to encourage our website users to communicate when they need help dealing with mental health.
Process of Building our Website
First, we brainstormed what kind of information we would like our website to have and started working from there. HTML, CSS, and W3.CSS were used to build the foundation of the website. There is one widget and some JavaScript included as well on several pages.
Challenges we ran into
Making sure that the website would work when resizing the window on PC. For mobile, the website still works, but some images do not show up properly. Was unable to figure out how to store the data for the affirmations page in time.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
Our team is very proud that we were able to complete our first hackathon and submit a final product. We were able to learn several new strategies to implement in the workplace and network with professionals in the Computer Science world.
What we learned
Since this was our first hackathon, our team was able to learn what specific skillset we need to be successful in a hackathon. We discovered the importance of creating a detailed website and a concise demo to convey our message.
What is next
This hackathon was great exposure to the computer science world, our team members will continue to participate in more hackathons. Moreover, we will continue to expand our knowledge of web application development.
