Inspiration
The inspiration for this app is the fact that 1 in 7 men ages from 16-24 suffer from the effects of a disordered lifestyle and that order is a habit that must be gained through discipline. Especially in the day and age of intense social media usage, chronically online individuals have to overcome this barrier of getting off of their phones.
What it does
The app is powered by the user and the app empowers the user. The app will help the user stay on the path of positive change by daily journaling for self improvement and relies on the honesty of the user to produce the best results. This app utilizes the GPT 3.5 language model to use correspondence with the user to quantify their daily habits.
How we built it
We simulated a production build of an app used by users that want to maintain a new habit, as the app focuses on the process of change not the result. The language we used is Python with Pandas library to store data from the users and Matplotlib to generate a graph to display the process of change in the users lifestyle.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran into is to try and learn a skill: full stack developments over night. We quickly pivoted into a language that we know and love to use: Python. Another challenge we ran into is to designing the app for the user, as a team of Computer Science students we knew how to design the path of information. However, to focus the type of users for the application to a singular type is a new challenge that we had not faced before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of coming together as a team and working of each other's past experience's with our own journey to a positive change in our lifestyle to generate a solution for the prompt and a working demo to present.
Our Biggest innovation!
Allowing a language model to quantify a user's progress and to encourage a user to pursue the changes for their new lifestyle is out biggest innovation.
What we learned
We learned that we cannot do everything and focusing on making one thing work is the best way to make progress, much like how our app encourages doing one thing right daily to facilitate a positive change.
What's next for HealthSyncTrakr
The future of HealthSyncTrakr is to incorporate a way to connect users through their interest in developing new habits, allowing them to encourage each other as transitioning alone is more difficult than when done in a group of like minded individual. Potentially also allowing the app permissions to limit screen time and send notifications to the users device to remind them about the habits that they are trying to develop. Widening the range of users for the application is the long-term goal.
