Inspiration
We are looking to create a single app that integrates many different health-related functions, as currently having multiple apps for these purposes is inefficient and inconvenient. Additionally, our app currently has a map feature.
What it does
The app performs a few functions such as a to-do list, an online grocery shop, and live exercise sessions. The app also has a map system that allows users to find the nearest facilities for easier convenience. The app also has a built-in (AI-developed) chatbot that gives basic responses to questions on common medical issues.
How we built it
We made this whole app using Flutter, an open-source UI software development kit created by Google. We also used Google map API to use the real-world map in our app and DialogFlow API for the automated chatbot system.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into several challenges such as not being able to use google maps API because it was paid, pixels overflowing in the app making it look ugly and we weren’t able to import our custom dialogues for the chatbot so we had to write all of it manually.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of successfully creating our app in a short amount of time due to our strong technical abilities. Additionally, we are proud that one of our team members was able to secure funding for the Google Maps API. We were able to overcome the challenge of importing data and manually shaping our AI chatbot.
What we learned
As a team, we have developed the ability to distribute tasks and fulfill our responsibilities effectively. During the process of developing our health app, we had the opportunity to research the market and determine our unique selling points. This guidance helped us shape the direction of our app. We also learned about the use of color schemes and decided to use green, as it is known to attract users and represents health and prosperity. Additionally, we gained a deeper understanding of the programming language Flutter and encountered and resolved various challenges during the creation of the app.
What's next for HealthMate
In future versions of HealthMate, we intend to create an independent app that can run on its own and bring our static concepts to life. In addition, we plan to add a feature that allows users to book appointments with various clinics and doctors. Currently, there is a small market for this idea as many clinics, hospitals, and doctors still use traditional methods such as making phone calls and using their calendars. By using our app, patients can directly schedule appointments, freeing up receptionists to attend to patients at the clinic rather than managing calls and patients simultaneously. Another feature we will add to the app is an auto-generated dietary plan that is based on user input such as height, weight, allergies, and other conditions. This plan will change weekly and provide the best alternatives for certain food items in the event they are unavailable at home. This will make it easier for users to find a one-stop solution for their dietary needs. In the future, we plan to integrate our platform with Fitbit to enable users to track their daily health statistics and view the data in graphical form. Additionally, we plan to use collective, anonymous user data to conduct health studies and research that could potentially benefit hospitals by providing them with insights into changing patterns and trends.
