Inspiration Watching my mother struggle with identifying her Multiple Sclerosis symptoms inspired me to create HealthMS. Seeing how providers would bounce between thinking a symptom was tied to one condition or the other, and how oftentimes their opinions would conflict with each other, I realized there needed to be a change. With HealthMS, we have a means for an empirical data-collection service that patients can use to draw insights with their medical providers.
What it does HealthMS provides MS patients with the ability to analyze symptom correlations with other categorical data. It also provides the ability to have ChatGPT serve as a Medical Advisor to analyze your data, and contains a small game intended to build a habit of recording Health data on HealthMS.
How we built it We built HealthMS using Python, Flask, and MongoDB for the backend, and React for the frontend. It was deployed with Azure for the backend and Github Pages for the frontend, however the deployed version of our Frontend was not working at the time of submission. Without any graphic design background, I wound up using carefully-tailored prompts to create the graphics for this project.
Challenges we ran into We encountered challenges while learning to work with modern AI tools like ChatGPT, Dall-E, and many, many issues with our deployment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We're proud of building a platform that can improve the lives of MS patients and their families, and how we were able to jam-pack so many features into so little development time.
What we learned We learned how to leverage data analytics and machine learning to address real-world problems in healthcare, as well as how to leverage some of the most cutting-edge AI tools available.
What's next for HealthMS We plan to expand the platform's capabilities and integrate additional features to better serve MS patients and their caregivers. Ideally, this will include connections to external services, like Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Weather.gov, and more. Eventually, we'd like to create a support section, where users can connect with other patients as well as find resources available for support.
