Our project was inspired by the friends and family we have that are suffering from either a diagnosed or an undiagnosed mental disorder. In 2019, 1 in every 8 people have mental disorders (depression, anxiety, ), yet only about half of them take the time to go to a therapist every week. We wanted to find a solution by making therapy more accessible and fun for everyone in the form of a free app.
In the app, each user has a unique account which enables them to have a personal checklist with small activities to improve their mental well-being. These small tasks will later become repetitive habits for the user. Over time, they will be able to incorporate healthy habits, which is what therapy aims to do. Along with this, we also created a questionnaire which helps the user self diagnose themselves to bring more awareness to their symptoms and help them realize why they should build healthier habits.
We ran into quite a few challenges while working on this project, especially time. We were short on time, but we still wanted to visit various workshops and events. Also, it was difficult to understand the backend technology since we've never worked with it before. We spent many hours working on the backend to create a login page.
Despite these challenges, we are extremely proud of being able to work with new languages/databases such as Firebase and other technologies we didn't have much experience with. We also had great teamwork during this project and compromised on various situations while still getting our voices individually heard.
We learned how to use Firebase as stated before. A few team members also didn't have much experience with ReactJS, so using ReactJS became more familiar to them after this project.
We want to implement new features to this project. Hopefully, Healthify will be able to incorporate an AI diagnostic based on symptoms stored into a database and output the most likely mental disorder associating with the symptoms with a high accuracy. In the future, when we're given more time, we aim to also
