Inspiration

While we were brainstorming, we looked up the most prevalent problems faced by teens. We learned how impactful eating disorders are on teenagers with the rise of social media and we wanted to combat this.

What it does

Healthical is a platform we've developed for teens to connect with other people around the world who might be struggling with similar health problems and hence learning from others' experiences. They can do so, through a created buddy system.

To combat eating disorders, we can oversee our nutrition through a calorie tracker and look for healthier alternatives best suited for us.

We can also improve our mental health by tracking our moods every day.

We have provided various resources and articles to generate awareness about eating disorders and how to battle them.

How we built it

We used the Flutter framework to build our app and Figma to design the UI. To collaborate on the Flutter project, we used Github. We also used Firebase as a back-end for user authentication and health data.

Challenges we ran into

None of us were very familiar with Flutter so we had to learn how to use it along the way. Since we designed a UI in Figma, we tried to use a Figma extension to convert those designs into Flutter code but it did not work for all of our graphics. Also, two of us had used Firebase for websites before but it was very different in dart. We followed online tutorials to help us with setting up Firebase authentication for user accounts and Firestore for user health data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our working prototype and how aesthetic it looks. Our logo embraces the theme of our app and follows the same principles thought-out. Above all, it was a great experience and opportunity to build a cool hack with compatible team members.

What we learned

We had the opportunity to use new interfaces like Flutter and Figma and GitHub's interface which some of us were not familiar with. We also learned about the myriad of eating disorders while articulating the eating disorder resources.
