Inspiration

Do you ever get tired of calling all your doctors for medical records? Have you ever forgotten about a past injury? Ever wanted to keep track of all of your healthcare data in one place? We have the perfect solution! Meet HealthHub, an all-in-one healthcare platform to provide one centralized location to access and store healthcare data in an appealing, stress-free, and user friendly interface.

What it does

HealthHub stores all of your healthcare data, inputted by you or a registered doctor, in one web application. Users get to log in with a personalized Bitmoji, input their any data regarding past injuries, surgeries, and diagnosis into any one of the different body part buttons. Users can also utilize the "Dental", "Optical", and "Medication" functions to input specific data within those categories.

How we built it

We built HealthHub with MongoDB as our database, utilizing its schema-less nature, which gave us flexibility in the different data input types. We integrated Flask, a web framework written in Python, to set up the server, allowing us to create and manager server endpoints to reach HTTP requests. Connecting our backend structure to our interactive and eye-catching front end design through Javascript, we were able to showcase our creativity through HTML and CSS. Our user-friendly interface allows users a seamless, enjoyable experience using HealthHub for healthcare and everyday usage.

Challenges we ran into

An important challenge we ran into, as first time hackathon competitors, was with utilizing git for version control and collaboration. Many times, we would forget to tell each other we were pushing or pulling code into our Github repository, which could lead to confusion and code compilation issues. A crucial moment during our hackathon weekend was when we could not update the Github because we did not push and pull at the correct moments. This really taught us the importance of communication and collaboration not only when coding, but when working in a group setting. It allowed us to trust each other and fully focus on our assigned roles. Through this experience, not only did we enrich our software development skills, but we truly learned the importance of full-stack development and the vitality of each role within an engineering environment.

What we learned

  • storing databases in MongoDB
  • creating front end development through HTML
  • personalizing web design using CSS
  • running virtual environments
  • utilizing flask for web framework
  • personalizing user profiles with bitmoji
  • coding backend development with Python programming language
  • working with git for version control
  • managing API endpoints using Postman
  • uploading progress in Github repositories
  • full stack development
  • working with talented developers
  • what it takes to bring an idea to life
  • wonderful advice from DevFest colleagues and Mentors!

What's next for HealthHub

We hope to deploy more healthcare categories which include women's health, newborn baby progress, and mental health journals. We want HealthHub to not only improve people's healthcare efficiency, but create joy in everyday lives. Through HealthHub, we want to solve real world problems that arise within the healthcare industry. The privacy of our users' personal data is our biggest priority, as we make it our mission to make our application accessible to everyone and anyone in the world. We hope to continue developing creative and unique UX designs along with providing the best backend technology through innovative features. The future of healthcare records lie with HealthHub.
