Inspiration
Many diseases become life-threatening not because they are incurable, but because they are detected too late. In many communities, people lack easy access to regular health monitoring and preventive guidance. HealthGuard was inspired by the need to empower individuals to monitor their health early, identify risks and take preventive action before conditions escalate.
What it does
HealthGuard is a web-based disease prevention and monitoring platform that allows users to track vital signs, assess disease risk, and receive preventive health alerts. Users can input vitals such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar and temperature, view trends over time, and receive color coded risk assessments (Low, Medium, High). Admins can monitor trends and send health notifications.
How I built it
The platform was built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend, PHP (PDO) for backend logic, and MySQL for data storage. Secure authentication, prepared statements, and input sanitization were used to protect user data.
Challenges I ran into
Designing a simple but meaningful risk assessment logic, managing secure data handling, and balancing functionality with hackathon time constraints were key challenges.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Built a fully functional health monitoring MVP Implemented secure authentication and data handling Designed a clean, responsive dashboard Delivered a clear prevention focused health solution
What I learned
I gained deeper experience in secure PHP development, health data modeling and building impactful solutions under tight deadlines.
What's next for HealthGuard
Integration with wearables and IoT devices AI powered risk prediction SMS/email alerts Multi language support Doctor and hospital integrations
