Inspiration
What inspired us to create this project was not only the lack of knowledge about healthy eating and common misconceptions about what makes food healthy, but also the quarantine and its effects on our eating habits. Staying home most of the time under these difficult conditions has made it easier for us to order unhealthy food and have it delivered to us right at our doorstep, without thinking about the health consequences. These difficult times have made it easier for us to feel discouraged and fall into our dietary vices. The goal of this website is to educate people of healthy food options and to combat the piling of an existing health crisis in this country on top of another ongoing global crisis.
What it does
Our project is a website that focuses on healthier alternatives to meals we like to eat on a regular basis. We made this website to promote healthy eating by letting our users look up healthy meals and filter them with metrics that will let them customize their needs.
How we built it
We built our website by using React for the front end and Firebase as our database.
Challenges we ran into
Passing data to different components of our project. Some features to enhance user experience such as a modal function proved difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Having a complete and functioning website in just a couple of hours.
What we learned
By using both Firebase and API’s, we learned how to store information and fetch them from various sources.
