Inspiration

As a busy professional juggling long work hours and a desire to prioritize health, I grew frustrated with one-size-fits-all fitness and nutrition plans. Most apps didn’t adapt to my weekly progress or fit my unique schedule—so I built HealthCoach AI to fill that gap, focusing on flexibility and personalization for people like me who want structured health guidance that evolves with their lives.

What it does

HealthCoach AI delivers fully personalized 7-day meal, workout, and sleep plans tailored to your goals (weight management, energy boost, etc.), dietary restrictions, lifestyle, and equipment access. Each week, you log your progress, and the plan adjusts to keep you on track—plus features like auto-generated shopping lists and monthly progress dashboards to simplify adherence.

How we built it

I started by mapping core user journeys (onboarding, weekly check-ins, plan adjustments) and designing a intuitive page structure. Using HTML/CSS for the UI, JavaScript to power interactive elements (form logic, plan adjustments), Chart.js for progress visualizations, and LocalStorage to store user data. I focused on making the app functional across all major browsers with no complex build steps, prioritizing a seamless user experience from sign-up to plan review.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest hurdle was designing the adaptive plan logic to feel truly personalized—balancing simple rules (adjusting calories/workout volume based on energy levels) with a natural, non-robotic user experience. I also had to ensure data persistence worked reliably across browsers and that the UI scaled smoothly for both desktop and mobile users.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a fully functional app where users complete onboarding, receive a tailored initial plan, log weekly progress, and see adjusted plans—all without backend infrastructure. The progress dashboards (energy trends, weight tracking) and auto-generated shopping lists have been the most well-received features, making health planning actionable and less time-consuming.

What we learned

I deepened my expertise in client-side data management with LocalStorage and learned to design adaptive logic that prioritizes user-centricity over complexity. I also gained insight into how to translate real-world health needs into intuitive digital features—like balancing detailed meal/workout plans with simplicity so users don’t feel overwhelmed.

What's next for this project

First, I want to add more granular customization (e.g., meal recipe integrations, workout video links). Long-term, I aim to explore wearable integration (Apple Health, Fitbit) to auto-sync sleep/activity data, and refine the adaptive AI logic to incorporate more user feedback for even more personalized plans. I also plan to test a subscription model to support ongoing development and expand to mobile-optimized layouts.
