Inspiration

This is how we choose to interpret the theme of "Health." In regards to technological improvements, the healthcare system has advanced significantly through generations, making it more effective and efficient. We called into question whether the system was perfect as it is simply because it was efficient. While there have been many improvements, there are still a number of persistent problems with the system that we felt the need to address. Hence this necessity inspired us to present the healthcare system the way we did through our project.

Overview

To represent the power play that now has the healthcare system in its grip, our entire project is presented as a chessboard. Behind the many physicians and nurses that put in countless hours to protect the health of their patients lie businesses that undermine the aim that the system seeks to achieve. The two players that are participating in the game represent these two opposing factions. The issues with the current healthcare system are represented by the chess pieces. The bishop represents the most recent abortion laws that have been put into place, and the rook symbolises the current pandemic that we are currently experiencing. The knight illustrates the gap between the rich and the poor as a result of the high expenditures of medical care, while the queen signifies the lack of advancements in cancer treatment.

How We Built It

The entire project was created using Blender, where each of us contributed to various chessboard components before combining them in the end. We organised each component in Blender's "Edit Mode" before adding any extra elements to the design in "Sculpt Mode." We used Procreate to colour each component before assembly to add complexity to the structures. For more intricate designs, like some of the chess pieces, we used Google photos as references.

What did we learn?

We have participated in the Blender category before at Hackathon 2022, however at that time we were much less organised than we are today. We could learn about the various functions in Blender in more depth and could expand our scope from simply block like structures to more complicated designs.

Challenges We faced

Despite our prior involvement, however, skill is not necessarily a function of experience. We could all agree on a solid idea, but putting it into practice proved to be more challenging than we had anticipated. We definitely lacked in the area of time management, and by the time we got to the finish line, we were less organised than when we started. It was more difficult to learn how to create some structures, like the hands and the knight, but we managed to do it in the end.

What's Next?

Despite the challenges, we hope that our messaged could be conveyed well through our project and it's presentation. We hope to continue using Blender and other coding softwares to expand our experiences even more.
