HealthChain Connect

Inspiration

The inspiration for HealthChain Connect stems from the growing need for a secure, transparent, and efficient system to manage healthcare records. Traditional systems are often siloed, prone to data breaches, and lack real-time access, which hampers the quality of healthcare services.

Our idea is to leverage blockchain technology to create a decentralized, immutable, and transparent system that can be trusted by all stakeholders—Doctors, Patients, Registered Nurses, Hospitals, Private/Public Insurers, Labs and Researchers.

What it Does

HealthChain Connect serves as a Blockchain Oracle on HyperCycle.ai, allowing various stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem to connect and authenticate access to medical records using a Public key. It ensures:

Data Integrity: Once a medical record is stored, it can't be altered or deleted.
Real-Time Access: Authorized personnel can access the data in real-time.
Privacy and Security: Only those with the correct Public key can access specific records.
Interoperability: Easy sharing of medical records across different platforms and healthcare providers.
Income generation: Ensures payment for Patients sharing Health Records with Researchers

How We Built It

Technology Stack: We used Ethereum for the blockchain backend, Solidity for smart contracts, and Python for the server-side logic hosted on HyperCycle.ai with AWS.
Authentication: Implemented Public key cryptography using the eth-crypto library.
Frontend: Our Front-end runs on Javascript/HTML, integrated with MetaMask for wallet management.
Oracle: Utilized CPSO (College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario) and CNO (College Of Nurses Of Ontario) for authentic data on registered medical professionals to act as the blockchain oracle for real-world data interaction with the medical ecosystem

Challenges We Ran Into

Tech issues: Blockchain connections, libraries , versions , third party APIs --- :(
Data scraping: Extracting medical personnel data from CPSO and CNO websites

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

Working Demo: We got an end-to-end working demo with all new technologies like HyperCycle and deployed on the Ethereum Classic Mordor TestNet!!

What We Learned

Technical Limitations: Gained insights into the limitations of blockchain technology and how to mitigate them.
Stakeholder Needs: Learned the importance of designing the system to meet the unique needs of each stakeholder group.

What's Next for HealthChain Connect

Expansion: Plan to build out the service for hospitals and healthcare providers.
Feature Development: Introduce AI-based chatbot for easy access
Global Reach: Aim to adapt the platform across Canada and then for different countries, considering local regulations and needs and income generation via HyperCycle
