Inspiration
We were inspired to create this project because of the experiences we've experiences and heard from our peers regarding their negative experiences with healthcare. Health equity is still something that many people are unaware of, and as such, there are very few well-known tools to assist people in finding care that will treat them fairly. Our project's intention is to make the lives of all those who have been unfairly treated by the healthcare industry easier.
What it does
Our system is similar to other rating services, such as Yelp or Google Reviews. However, what makes Healthcare Compare different is that it has an emphasis on reviewing healthcare providers based on their treatment of patients across racial, ethnic, gender, marital, and sex lines. We allow users to self-identify when sharing their experiences with specific healthcare providers so that others can recognize professionals who may have specific biases or blind spots when providing care.
How we built it
Our business plans were developed by Adira Behmlander and the wireframes were developed by Joe Baillie using Proto.io
Challenges we ran into
Due to the different areas of the project we intended to cover, there were high amounts of miscommunication regarding the division of labor and the intended functionality of the system. This led to lots of cross-development, where the development side and the business side would have conflicts regarding the minimum viable product for demonstration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The extensiveness of the business plans and the depth of analysis done by Adira is something we are greatly proud of. In addition, we are very proud of the quality of the wireframes that were developed in the timeframe available to us.
What we learned
We learned the importance of working on our project in sequence, making sure we've outlined out work prior to working on it, and making sure that each step is done in a suitable state prior to moving on. We also realized the importance of aligning visions while in the requirements gathering phase to ensure we are working towards the same goal.
What's next for HealthcareCompare
We've outlined in our user stories and use cases all of the functionality that we would like to have for this system, including what we would like to actually implement, rather than prototype via wireframes. This is a project we both have great passion for and would like to see how it could help people if officially deployed.
