💡 Inspiration

During the pandemic, I observed how difficult it was for people to schedule timely doctor appointments without physically visiting hospitals or clinics. This inspired me to create a platform that simplifies and digitizes healthcare booking, enabling patients to connect with doctors from the comfort of their homes.

🛠️ What it Does

The Healthcare Booking System allows patients to browse doctors based on specialization, view their availability, and book or cancel appointments. Doctors can set their available time slots and manage their schedule. Admins oversee the platform, managing users and approving doctor registrations. The system includes secure login, role-based access, and a clean, responsive interface.

⚙️ How We Built It

The project is built using the MERN stack:

Frontend: React.js with React Router for navigation and a responsive UI.

Backend: Node.js and Express.js for building RESTful APIs.

Database: MongoDB for storing user data, appointments, and schedules.

Authentication: Implemented JWT for secure role-based access and bcrypt for password encryption.

Deployment: The frontend is deployed on Vercel, and the backend can be hosted via platforms like Render or Railway.

🧱 Challenges We Ran Into

  • Implementing secure role-based authentication for patients, doctors, and admins.

  • Designing a user interface that works well across devices while keeping the experience intuitive.

  • Handling calendar availability logic so doctors can manage schedules and patients can see real-time booking options.

  • Structuring the backend to ensure proper data validation and error handling.

  • Successfully implemented three distinct user roles with different access levels.

  • Add email or SMS notifications for appointment confirmations and reminders.

  • Integrate video consultations for virtual appointments.

  • Allow patients to rate/review doctors after consultations.

  • Implement search filters for doctors by location, rating, and availability.

  • Add dashboard analytics for doctors and admins.
