Over 25% of adults live with a disability, yet online healthcare portals routinely block them with unlabeled forms, poor contrast, and complex navigation. When digital tools fail, patients often blame themselves. We built HealthBridge to put the power back in patients' hands. HealthBridge is a Manifest V3 browser extension and accessibility copilot designed by team Verities. It is not an overlay—it runs only when triggered by the user. It adapts their view in real time and provides an automated WCAG 2.1 compliance report card without compromising privacy or claiming false site-wide compliance.

How we built it: Core Extension: Built using Vanilla JavaScript, ES modules, and Manifest V3. Scanner: Powered by axe-core to run WCAG 2.1 A/AA compliance checks directly on active tabs. Side Panel UI: A custom, accessible 4-tab interface for scanning pages, simplifying text into a Reader View, navigating forms step-by-step, and applying instant display preferences (high contrast, text spacing, and strong focus rings) via chrome.storage.sync. Form Helper & Write-Back: Safely maps form elements, bypassing brittle selectors to inject values using native setters and event dispatchers so modern framework forms recognize the changes. AI Features: We also created specific AI features to further help users.

Challenges we ran into: Handling dynamic DOM changes across various healthcare portal structures without breaking user input. Ensuring strict adherence to our non-overlay philosophy by routing all interactions locally on-device and using optional host permissions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: Delivering a fully functional, end-to-end prototype featuring an automated WCAG auditor, a clean Reader View, and an interactive form wizard within the hackathon timeframe.
