Inspiration
We wanted to build a simulator to keep kids healthy
What it does
For our hack, we have created a game for children that educates them about fitness and healthy habits. When kids play the game, they first click the “Start” button and then proceed to a screen that displays different options for food and activities. Underneath, labels, such as “muscles” and “cardio” are shown, along with values. They represent different things to take care of in one’s body, such as muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance. These values are originally set to 20, and may go up and down depending on the decisions you make and the buttons you click throughout the duration of the day. For example, if a child selects to have chocolate pancakes for breakfast, their score for a certain thing to take care of will go down. For instance, the child’s muscular endurance value could decrease from 20 to 17. Once the value of a certain health concern is under 0, the game ends. The child goes through their breakfast, afternoon activity, lunch, evening activity, and dinner. The goal is to last the greatest number of days possible. The child is able to learn about health, but at the same time have fun, which is our main goal for this hack.
How we built it
Using repl.it (HTML, CSS, JS)
Challenges we ran into
Repl.it multiplayer is in beta mode and often causes problems and disruptions
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making the buttons work
What we learned
Some Javascript
What's next for Health Yourself
Making it work better as it's not very functional
