Inspiration:
I grew up with Epilepsy, and my parent's were never fully sure how to deal with it, so when I started programming I figured I should make something to help make sure that others never deal with that same issue. When the first demo, I decided to generalize it, because you never know what other people can be going through.
What it does:
My project takes text input, or an image, such as of medical notes or a physical injury if you're not sure what it might be, and returns details on how you should help the person, before medical responders get there (if applicable), and after they return. It also gauges threat level, such as finding how someone being overworked isn't as severe as someone suffering from a high drop/fall.
How we built it:
I built the python code for the backend, then once I was sure it worked I moved on to building the UI through streamlit. It took some time to get everything how I wanted it, and I went through a lot of hex codes, but I'm satisfied with where it is now.
Challenges we ran into:
I'm newer to coding, and this is my first hackathon, so I went through, and am still going through as I'm typing this out, the fear of my project not having enough features, or not being decorated enough. I overcame it by accepting that It's a first project, not a medical grade software, and pushed through to filling out this page anyway.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
I'm proud that I finally figured out API management, and a bit of streamlit, because that was something I've been working on for about a month now. I'm also proud that I got a product I feel is good enough to be sent to a hackathon like this one.
What we learned:
I learned, as stated earlier, API management, and some streamlit, as well as how important user experience can be in projects like these.
What's next for Health & Well-Being Co-Pilot:
Next I will likely split the web app into sections so it will give you different structured responses based on if you're an average person, or a medical practitioner looking for help diagnosing/confirming a diagnosis for a patient.
Impact Statement:
Caregivers and health workers support sick or injured individuals all day, often with very little free time. This app was built so these dedicated people can spend less time assessing patients—or struggling to figure out a loved one's needs—and more time directly tending to them.
