Inspiration
Healthcare professionals and caregivers often manage medical records for multiple residents across different systems and paper documents. In hospitals and residential care facilities, quickly accessing accurate medical information is critical for providing safe and timely care.
Health Vault was inspired by the need for a secure, centralized platform that simplifies medical record management for healthcare providers and caregivers. Our goal is to reduce administrative burden, improve access to important patient information, and help staff spend more time caring for residents instead of searching through paperwork.
What it does
Health Vault is a centralized medical record management platform designed for hospitals and residential care facilities.
Healthcare professionals can use Health Vault to:
- Create and manage resident profiles
- Store and access medical records in one place
- Upload medical documents securely
- Generate AI-powered summaries of medical reports using Google Gemini
- Quickly review important information without reading through lengthy documents
- Securely access records through authenticated accounts
- Recover accounts through email verification and password reset
By combining medical record management with AI-powered document summarization, Health Vault helps caregivers access important information more efficiently.

Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was designing a secure authentication system for an application handling sensitive healthcare information. We implemented JWT authentication, password hashing, email verification, and password reset functionality to ensure only authorized users could access resident records.
Another challenge was integrating the Gemini API into our application. We needed to process uploaded medical reports and generate useful summaries that could help caregivers quickly understand lengthy documents.
Designing the database relationships between staff accounts, residents, and medical records while keeping the application organized and scalable was another important challenge we successfully overcame.
