Inspiration
We go inspiration from the uncanny number of chronic cases over america, with this many people why not form a community? We see people reach on platforms such as tiktok to find a sense of community of people like the. But what if there was a place where everyone was? That was inpiration behind health talk, we wanted to bring the community to them.
What it does
Our objective is to develop a mobile application that serves as a supportive forum for individuals living with chronic illnesses. Through this platform, our aim is to create a sense of community where users can connect, share experiences, and find solace in each other's journeys. Additionally, we seek to raise awareness about underrepresented chronic illnesses, fostering understanding and empathy among our users and the broader community. Furthermore, our app will provide resources and information on available grants and financial assistance programs to help alleviate the financial burdens associated with medical bills and the cost of living. Ultimately, our goal is to empower individuals with chronic illnesses, offering them a supportive network and resources to navigate their healthcare journey with resilience and confidence.
How we built it
We built our own interactive data visualization, our team used a mix of python and tableau as well as over 30 different data sets combined in order to create more than 1 filter. We used google site to make a mock up of what the real site would look and work. We also created a figma mock up to show what our mobile app will look and flow.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges concerning the data, it was difficult for our team to find useable and trustable data sets. As most health related medical data takes time to submit a request in order to see they raw CSV files. We also had problems finding data to convey a positive aspect, most datasets we found were to show death rates rather than recovery. The last challenge we faced was finding diversity of small terminal illnesses and getting information on them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the Figma model as it has flow for others to see how the app will work once produced and the data visualization that were created using so many different data sets.
What we learned
We have learned how to use figma at a higher level than before, and we learned ourselves more about chronic illnesses and what is out there. We learned to analyze the strengths of our team to be able to divide work in a way that we would ass be at our best advantage.
What's next for Health Talk
Next for health talk is ti get it out on the app store, start finding people within the community to possibly public speak at events to get others interested in it. We could also connect with hospitals to maybe suggest the app to patients who have a feeling of isolation.
