Inspiration
The COVID-19 pandemic began in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and has since spread to the vast majority of countries. As of March 24, 5 countries had registered more than a thousand deaths: China, France, Iran, Italy and Spain. COVID-19 is not only causing mortality but is also putting considerable stress on health systems with large numbers of cases.
Taking this scenario into account, it is necessary to have comprehensive community health management solutions in epidemic situations that offer in-depth coverage of the community intervention process.
The crisis management situation stemming from increased infections with the consequent growth in the use of healthcare resources and the public measures of the population's global home confinement, poses the following challenges for the different parties involved:
- Patients and caretakers: Self-management of their health, monitoring of their state of health, home care continuity
- Professionals: Ensuring the availability of the resources needed to provide clinical and social care for their patients, Availability of the health information needed to ensure patient quality and safety.
- Management professionals: Availability of information to optimize resource planning, Identification of useful information for the resilience of healthcare systems.
What it does
Its primary goal is to reduce the pressure on front-line workers and resources during all phases of an epidemic or pandemic.
It takes a holistic approach and delivers benefits for all three groups:
- Patients and their carers.
- Front-line healthcare staff.
- Healthcare authority managers.
An integrated solution for delivering care in the community that includes self-triage, virtual consultation and data analytics management. It can be used both by public/private healthcare organisations and by any public or private company who wants to offer and additional layer for managing their human resources from the healthcare perspective.
How I built it
Remote Health is an integrated, end-to-end solution that is cloud-based and designed to cover the full spectrum of needs for patients with possible or confirmed COVID-19 infections suitable for treatment at home. Its services include:
- A comprehensive suite of clinical services covering targeted diagnostic guidance, self-treatment and patient management, delivered over virtual channels.
- Powerful data analytics capabilities to make it easier for healthcare administrators to manage the crisis. It is built using Java for backend and ZK for frontend.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The team was able to set up and configure the basic workflows for patients, heathcare professionals and managers and generate a minimum viable product. In addition, we defined the detailed roadmap with the main drivers who will guide us to evolve the product as well as the impact expected. Finally we also defined a first draft business plan including target clients and their potential benefits from using the product.
What's next for Remote Health
We will try to extend our solution worldwide to gather as much feedback as possible. In parallel we will try to find potential partners (both clinical and technological) to cover our detected needs with the sake of being able to perform additional PoCs to validate the feasibility of our solution.
