Inspiration

Two of our team members have a strong family history of diabetes. We've seen firsthand how early detection and continuous monitoring can make all the difference in preventing severe complications. However, many patients lack a seamless way to track their vitals and share them with healthcare providers in real time.

We asked ourselves: What if we could bridge this gap? What if we could empower doctors and patients with instant, AI-powered insights into their health?

That’s how Health Monitoring was born—a solution designed to connect patient health data from Apple’s HealthKit to an interactive dashboard, ensuring proactive healthcare monitoring.


What It Does

Health Monitoring is a two-part system:

Mobile App (Powered by Apple HealthKit)

  • Collects real-time health data, including heart rate, sleep patterns, oxygen saturation, steps, and hydration levels.
  • Seamlessly transmits this data to our secure backend.

Web Dashboard (Built for Healthcare Providers)

  • Displays real-time health metrics in an intuitive interface.
  • Uses AI-generated patient summaries to provide a deeper understanding of health trends.
  • Triggers emergency alerts if critical health thresholds are met.

With this system, doctors and caregivers can monitor patients remotely and take action before an emergency arises.


How We Built It

Building Health Monitoring was no small feat. Our tech stack included:

  • Flutter for the mobile app
  • React for the web dashboard
  • Python & Flask for data processing and API integration
  • MongoDB for secure health data storage
  • ChatGPT for generating AI-powered patient summaries

The app fetches health data from Apple’s HealthKit API, sends it to our backend, and then displays the insights in an interactive React-powered dashboard. AI-generated summaries help doctors quickly assess patient conditions without sifting through raw data.


Challenges We Faced

Like every great project, Health Monitoring came with its fair share of obstacles:

  • ** Time Crunch:** Our website crashed as the deadline loomed, leaving us scrambling to reconnect the mobile and web platforms.
  • ** Integration Complexity:** Syncing real-time data across multiple platforms (mobile, backend, and web) proved to be more challenging than anticipated.
  • ** Debugging Hurdles:** Fixing unexpected bugs with API calls and database interactions took longer than expected.

Despite these setbacks, we pushed through and delivered a functional and visually polished prototype.


Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

Even though we faced obstacles, we emerged with a product that has the potential to revolutionize remote patient monitoring.


Lessons Learned

This project was a huge learning experience for all of us. We gained:

  • A renewed appreciation for the importance of robust system architecture to prevent crashes at critical moments.

Above all, we learned that perseverance and teamwork are key to tackling ambitious projects under tight deadlines.
