Inspiration

A lot of people face near-death situations and unfortunately some even die. In an unfortunate situation of a medical emergency, a lot of people tend to lose their lives due to misplaced/delayed paperwork. It is essential to have the patient’s medical record history before going into major surgery and it is often unavailable at the required time due to the chain of communication between different hospitals.

What it does

A possible solution to this problem that we propose is to have a central chain of all medical history of a patient. This will include test reports, diagnosis reports as well as prescriptions. We will maintain an online locker that shall be only be accessed by the patient and patient authorized doctors. The only function available with the doctor would be adding and viewing reports that too with the patient’s authority. Modification/Deletion won’t be available to either party to decrease the chance of altered reports.

This way patients can skip going through piles to of paperwork before seeking treatment and hospitals won’t have to maintain their individual patient records. This could revolutionalize hospital management by providing digital access and paperless documentation. In case a patient is unconscious and won’t be able to give access to records, secondary access could be provided by listed emergency contacts.

How we built it

We first sat and discussed real-life problems faced. Then after brainstorming, we worked on the ideation part. We came up with a brilliant idea and started planning it out. We started with the UI/UX of the web app that we were going to make. After the UI was complete we made the front end of the application. after the development of the front end was complete we made the backend for it. We made a database for patients and doctors. After the backend was completed we integrated it with the front end. We used API calls using Axios for linking the backend to the front end. Then after this was completed we added some front end logic and added authentication for doctors as well as users. we had to do a lot of thinking on the functionality part. We made a clean and smooth user interface along with a strong and secure backend! We used firestore for image uploading and OTP verification using firebase. Our application solves a lot of problems in the health care domain by maintaining a central secure database for medical data.

Challenges we ran into

Being the first hackathon for some of our members we got to learn working on a lot of collaborative interfaces such as Git, GitHub, and Figma. The biggest challenge was getting used to Git commands especially to getting simultaneous changes made by other team members. We also were struggling to integrate GCP in our project but found an amazing use case of integrating a Dialogflow bot to enhance the user experience of elderly patients who might need help navigating through the website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Brainstorming and coming up with a great idea that solves real life problems Team work and team coordination This being the first hack for most of our team members, we still worked with good coordination and 100% efforts by each team member. Our project Health In Space solves a lot of problems faced in health care domain Enjoying the hackathon and building something useful :)

What's next for Health In Safe

Medical Records are something that needs to be protected with the utmost security as life and death are dependent on them. We plan to secure the chain of records using blockchain concepts. Also, we plan to integrate fingerprint authorization in the case of unconscious patients or authorization by emergency contacts.
