Inspiration

Health Hero was born out of the belief that everyone deserves a user-friendly tool for self-diagnosis. Our goal was to develop a single platform enabling individuals to manage their health directly from their devices. It recommends hospitals and clinics nearby so that if you think you want to see a doctor, or if the regular doctor you see is booked for weeks, you have other options. It's fast, straightforward, and enables users to prioritize their health concerns. Recognizing the challenges many encounter in identifying and managing health issues early on, Health Hero strives to offer a simple, accessible website for all, aiming to enhance the well-being of our community.

What it does

The website collects information from users who are curious about specific symptoms they're experiencing. By leveraging the Gemini API, patients receive a diagnosis for their symptoms, showcased on the results page of our website. These symptoms may pertain to physical or mental health conditions. Following the diagnosis, users are provided with a map generated from Google Maps, offering further steps for their health.

Challenges we ran into

Navigating the API area posed a significant challenge for our team. We encountered difficulties in identifying APIs that aligned with our vision and could be seamlessly integrated into our project. Whether due to functionality issues, compatibility issues, cost constraints, or it simply not existing, finding suitable APIs proved to be a tough challenge. Furthermore, our front-end developers faced an additional learning curve as they dove into HTML/CSS for the first time. Despite the initial setback, they quickly adapted to the new language, allowing us to overcome this obstacle and move forward with our project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Utilizing a large AI Language Model to create prompts and answers. We learned how to use video background as a first time hacker. We were able to learn new languages (HTML/CSS, JavaScript). We improved our understanding for Git version control.

What we learned

We gained helpful insights into the collaborative process of project development, discovering how separate elements contributed by various team members could be seamlessly integrated to form a completed whole. Exploring APIs, version control with Git, frontend languages, and backend implementation deepened our understanding of project dynamics. Moreover, we honed our skills in crafting visually appealing websites with practical functionality, transforming our vision into reality. Working under tight deadlines, we cultivated teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

What's next for Health Hero

We aspire for Health Hero to evolve and expand its offerings, providing additional features to support the health and well-being of individuals in our community, addressing both mental and physical aspects. Our aim is to enhance accessibility, making it easier for a broader audience to benefit from our platform. Our ongoing objective is to explore new avenues for incorporating self-help resources into a seamlessly navigable platform, ensuring continuous improvement and user satisfaction. We want to be able to have a chatbot that can assist users.
