Inspiration

Public primary healthcare is an issue faced by many South African's who live in underprivileged communities that is caused by inefficient health service delivery and inequality to access. There is a greater problem in the same communities when those who are in need of these services are unable to get access due to various constraints which may include: disability, lack of transport, maternity, etc. The issue aligns with the third sustainable development goal: Good Health and Well-being. To realise this goal, Health Guardian is an all-in-one health monitoring solution used to help those in underprivileged communities that lack support with monitoring their health and getting access to medical services. Health Guardian is an application that offers Mental Health and Disease Management support to South Africans across all ages, with various health needs.

About Health Guardian

What it does

Health guardian is a mobile app that monitors user's daily health and medication. It helps the patient keep track of their own consumption while also allowing the doctor to track the progress of the patient. It provides the user with emergency transport to a healthcare service when the user needs urgent help. The features of the app include mental health monitoring and support, easy access to emergency transport, relaxation exercises and support groups for comprehensive care all within a user-friendly interface.

The three important aspects of the app include:

  • Mental Health: Health Guardian aims to provide support forums: giving user access to support groups and platforms, gamified support: games that help with the management of stress and anxiety and enhancing cognitive functions, self-assessments: self-monitoring of moods, general well-being to gauge mental health status, specialised recommendation: and expert support: expert stakeholders will provide insight and offer consultations.

  • Disease Management Support: Health Guardian aims to work hand in hand with the nearest medical professionals to help monitor daily health and medication and track user progress. It aims to provide consultations with specialist and real time health alerts that let the user know of any critical changes in their condition.

  • Emergency Transport: Health Guardian aims to provide quick access to emergency transport that is available 24/7. It also offers offline assistance by supplying toll free numbers used to request assistance.
