Inspiration - When I saw people losing their lives in a critical situation or getting stuck in some place where they can be rescued, but we cant get in touch with them, thousands of lives could have been saved, but still, we dont have the signal to rescue them. Their family is all shattered watching this. I felt so disheartened after reading in the news that people were being snatched away from their loved ones, they are mourning in their death rites & rituals. Feeling that sentiment like own, I wanted to develop an app that can safeguard people in danger or in tragic incidents.

What it does - In the most critical moments—when chaos strikes, when lives hang in the balance, when fear threatens to take over—Zero Hour rises as your silent guardian.

Built with purpose, driven by urgency, and powered by technology, Zero Hour is more than just an emergency app. It's a lifeline. A beacon. A promise that help is always within reach.

Whether it's a medical emergency, natural disaster, personal safety threat, or crisis, Zero Hour connects you instantly to the support, alerts, and services you need.

Because in your darkest hour, you shouldn’t feel alone. This is your Zero Hour. And we’re here for you.

How we built it - We used Android Studio and built the app using Java. We used Google Maps and Location Services to get the user’s location. When the phone is shaken fast, the app sends an SOS message with the live location to 5 emergency contacts.

Challenges we ran into - Adding shake detection and making it work correctly.

Getting and sending live location through SMS.

Fixing errors with library dependencies in Gradle.

Handling permissions for location and SMS.

Accomplishments that we're proud of - We made the SOS feature work with live location sharing.

The app runs smoothly and does what we wanted.

It looks clean and is easy to use.

We solved all the build issues and errors.

What we learned - How to detect phone shaking using sensors.

How to send SMS with the current location.

What's next for ' Zero Hour' - To merge it with satellite connection & extend the emergency help to the nearest police department for further necessary actions.
