Health Bot

Inspiration

We were inspired to make HealthBot after frequently seeing users share their concerning thoughts to the public.

What it does

HealthBot picks up on keywords from each message sent into a server. When messages are flagged to be of concern, HealthBot reaches out privately with resources for the user to get help.

How we built it

The bot is written in Java and uses the Java Discord API. Maven is the build automation tool we used.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest struggle we had was exploring how to use an API for the first time, and then collaborating to create a project using the one that we had just learned.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have a finished, working bot that really helps it's users find themselves in a better place mentally. As second year Computer Science students, we are excited to have an idea that could have a significant impact on people's lives.

What's next for Health Bot

HealthBot can hopefully be improved to efficiently support access on hundreds or thousands of servers, and possibly even be implemented into Discord itself to help it's users.
